Update on our situation
Nearly a week have passed since the deadly events in northern Japan started. As citizens of Tokyo since last September, we have been witnesses of a dramatic story and stood to show our support in the middle of this crisis as long as we could. It is now time for us to think about our families back in Europe and the fear and stress they are enduring for too long. It is killing us to leave so many friends behind us as well as this wonderful country where we found a fascinating culture and people.
We want to point the media for spreading the terror with their exaggerated stories of apocalypse in Tokyo and cities around. What happen in Japan is horrible and we cry for the people who lost everything, for the death of families during the tsunami. But we won’t forget the lies, how much misleading informations, rumours and pictures of a deserted capital where panic and despair rule. The immediate effect has been the rise of fear in the families back home and the immediate repercussion here, leading to an irrational panic.
The actual situation is still unstable and we wish our friends to remain safe, to take the maximum of precaution without letting the fear drive over them.
We are writing this message from Tokyo Narita Airport where we are repatriated by the French Embassy in a governmental plane. We still don’t know what is going to be our flight as we might stop by Seoul for an unknown duration but we will be hopefully back in Paris soon.
We want to thank the people who sent us some amazing messages of support.
